Use an engine block installed dial indicator to check runout at three attaching bosses on the Flywheel; if runout cannot be remedied then replace the engine Flywheel. Finally, install the automatic transaxle.

Screw the installed Flywheel to its position by using bolts which should be tightened to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Install the manual transmission clutch with its associated Pressure Plate after which you should install the transmission. The right splash shield serves as the last component for installation.

Engine Flywheel runout measurement requires placing a dial indicator on the engine block to evaluate the runout at three attaching bosses; the replacement of the engine Flywheel is needed when runout exceeds specifications and adjustments cannot solve the issue. Finally, install the transaxle.

A mechanic needs to start by raising the vehicle and setting it on stands before beginning work on the Flex Plate. Before beginning service on the Flex Plate remove all torque converter covers then extract the flywheel to torque converter bolt(s). Follow installation procedure by placing the flywheel to torque converter bolt(s) then securing them at 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.). Then install the torque converter cover and complete the procedure by lowering the vehicle.

Grip the flywheel to remove the remaining bolt, ensuring not to drop the flywheel during this process.

Tighten the engine flywheel bolts to 70 Nm (52 lb ft).

First to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.), then to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.), and finally to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).

Take off the engine flywheel retainer and the flywheel, and clean the bolt threads and holes.

Position the flywheel on the crankshaft as previously noted, ensuring to adhere to the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Finally, install the transmission.

Rotate the torque converter by hand.

Use the J 37096 (Flywheel Holder) to secure the flywheel.

Reinstall the transmission and reconnect the negative battery cable.
