    Q:
How to service and repair the Cam Gear and sprocket on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the repair process for camshaft gear and sprocket by taking away engine front cover and Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. The end of the Crankshaft requires installation of a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt as engine rotation access but discarding either the Crankshaft balancer bolt or any components exceeding 1 inch length to protect threads. Turn the Crankshaft clockwise until both sprockets show their alignment marks at top dead center (TDC) of number four cylinder during compression. The procedure starts with unfastening the camshaft sprocket bolts before removing the camshaft sprocket together with the camshaft Timing Chain. The Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A) should be used to remove the Crankshaft sprocket after which the Crankshaft balancer key needs to be taken out. Before reassembly inspect both sprockets for broken teeth along with damaged areas and worn teeth which may exist on the keyway of the Crankshaft sprocket. Check the camshaft Timing Chain and view all parts with compressed air after you clean them with solvent. When installing the key insert the Crankshaft balancer into the keyway alignment which should be either parallel or mildly sloped. Position the keyway of the Crankshaft sprocket against the balancer key and then install the part using the Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590). The installation of the camshaft sprocket requires positioning its alignment mark at six o'clock with the Crankshaft sprocket fixed at twelve o'clock install the camshaft sprocket without a hammer to defend the expansion cup plug from being displaced. Use the Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590) to install the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring by aligning its keyway with the balancer key and push it onto the Crankshaft until it reaches a full seat position. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The last step involves removing the Crankshaft bolt for installing the engine front cover.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Cam Gear and sprocket on GMC Sonoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
The service process for camshaft gear and sprocket includes first removing the engine front cover then the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. A 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt should be installed into the Crankshaft closing. Avoid using the Crankshaft balancer bolt or a longer bolt since they can damage the threads. Use a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt to turn the Crankshaft until both sprocket timing marks match and the number four cylinder reaches its top dead center (TDC) position during compression. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts before taking out the camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain. The Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A) helps to remove Crankshaft sprocket and subsequent removal of Crankshaft balancer key. Thoroughly clean each component while also inspecting both sprockets and the camshaft Timing Chain for any indications of wear or breaking. When installing the Crankshaft balancer key fit it into the Crankshaft keyway while maintaining a parallel position or minor angle. Use the Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590) to put the Crankshaft sprocket in position by aligning its keyway with the balancer key. Mount the camshaft sprocket with its reference mark facing the 6 o'clock direction while the Crankshaft sprocket stays at the 12 o'clock position. Torque the camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) settings.after placing the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring in position next to the balancer key you should use Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590) to fully position it. To finish the installation you must remove the bolt from the Crankshaft and set the engine front cover into place.
