• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2003 Buick Rendezvous?

  A: In order to change the engine front cover, drain the engine cooling system and engine oil. Lift off the crankshaft balancer, the drive belt tensioner, and the Power Steering Pump with lines, leaving the pump off. Take the thermostat bypass pipe and radiator outlet hose away from the front cover, and then unscrew the coolant pump pulley. Remove the upper and lower Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring harness brackets from the engine front cover, and the oil-pan. Take out bolts from engine front cover (1,2,3), and the cover as well as gasket. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces on the engine front cover and engine block checking surfaces on the front cover, crankshaft front oil seal, or gasket sealing surface for damage. If changing the engine front cover, also untighten and remove the drive belt shield, crankshaft position sensor, and coolant pump from this front cover. For the installation if you pull it off, first install the coolant pump, crankshaft position sensor, and also the drive belt shield and fastening the drive belt shield bolt at 10 nm (89inch lbs.). Then, install the engine front cover gasket, engine front cover, and engine front cover bolts (1,2,3), getting the small m8 bolt to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.), the medium m10 bolt to 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.) and the large m12 bolt to 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Oil Pan, lower and upper crank position sensor wiring harness brackets, coolant pump pulley, radiator outlet hose, and throttle bypass pipe. Lastly, reinstall the Power Steering Pump with lines, drive belt-tensioner, and crankshaft balancer and fill the engine with a new engine oil and the cooling system with the engine coolant.
