• Q: How to replace the left catalytic converter on 2003 Cadillac CTS?

  A: The replacement process for the left Catalytic Converter starts by elevating and sustaining the vehicle. Before replacement please disconnect the heated Oxygen Sensor at the sensor pigtail then remove it if you need to replace the sensor. Pull the nuts from both ends of the Exhaust Pipe linking to the left and right catalytic converters before maneuvering the exhaust system back to clear the Exhaust Pipe flange from the Catalytic Converter studs and set it down on the floor panel tunnel brace. When working on the catalytic converters keep their seals from reuse by removing the left side seal and the right side gasket from the converter. You must first remove the 2 hanger bracket nuts on the Catalytic Converter and the 3 Exhaust Manifold nuts before removing the Catalytic Converter together with its seal. Prior to assembly place the new seal into the Catalytic Converter's seal groove before aligning it between the Exhaust Manifold and Catalytic Converter hanger bracket and tighten all 3 Exhaust Manifold nuts to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.). Assemble the 2 nuts on the Catalytic Converter hanger bracket while torquing them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Subsequently install a left side new seal on the Catalytic Converter flange followed by a new right side gasket over the Catalytic Converter studs. Place the rear Exhaust Pipe flanges correctly onto Catalytic Converter studs before attaching the nuts to the left collector. Apply torque to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) and then secure the right collector with the remaining 2 nuts at the same torque value. Always replace the heated Oxygen Sensor if you removed it and then hook it up to the sensor pigtail before you lower the vehicle.
