• Q: How to replace the Shift Linkage Boot and adaptor plate on 2003 Cadillac CTS?

  A: To replace the shift control boot and adaptor plate, extract the shift control knob/closeout boot as well as the sound insulator foam block from the console. Remove the electrical connector from the shift control adaptor plate and move it aside. Then, move the 2 bolts that hold the shift control assembly in place relative to the shift control adaptor plate, then the 4 nuts securing the shift control adaptor plate to the tunnel reinforcement. Remove the shift control boot and adaptate plate assembly from the car. For installing, put the shift control boot and adaptor plate assembly back into the vehicle and fix it using the method to tighten the 4 nuts to the tunnel reinforcement until they reach the torque of 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.). Raise the shift control lever in order to put the shift control assembly onto the alignment with the shift control adaptor plate and tighten the 2 bolts with 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). Turn on the electrical connector back to the shift control adaptor plate , reinstall the sound inner foam block to the console, and ultimately install shift control knob/ closeout boot.
