  A: The first step to replace the shift control boot and adaptor plate includes removing both the shift control knob/closeout boot and sound insulator foam block from the console. First detach the electrical connector from shift control adaptor plate before moving it out of reach. Start by removing two bolts which connect the shift control assembly to the shift control adaptor plate after eliminating the four nuts which fix the plate to the tunnel reinforcement. The shift control boot and adaptor plate assembly needs to be removed from the available vehicle. You should first place the shift control boot and adaptor plate assembly back into the vehicle before you install and tighten the 4 nuts onto the tunnel reinforcement at 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.). Adjust the shift control lever until the shift control assembly touches the shift control adaptor plate before installing the two securing bolts at 9 Nm (80 inch lbs. torques). The electrical connector should first be connected back to the shift control adaptor plate before the sound insulator foam block is reinstalled in the console and final installation of the shift control knob/closeout boot.
