2003 Cadillac Escalade Steering Angle Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Steering Angle Sensor on 2003 Cadillac Escalade?
A: When replacing the Steering Angle Sensor make sure the wheel lies straight and remains locked into position. Install the anti-rotation pin into the Steering Column when this becomes necessary for locking purposes. Begin by removing the upper intermediate shaft connection's nut and bolt then push the intermediate Steering Shaft downwards. To disconnect the sensor connector use an appropriate tool then pull it down behind the right side of the Steering Column but avoid putting side force on either the sensor or the bearing assembly. Take out the sensor retainer from the Steering Shaft. Proceed with sensor reuse by extracting it directly from the bearing adapter until the sensor clears the Steering Shaft but retain centering alignment using a pin between 1.0-2.0 mm in diameter during removal. The diameter of the pin must range from 1.0 to 2.0 mm. Never remove the bearing adapter. You can remove a new sensor directly out from the bearing adapter until it clears the Steering Shaft. When using the sensor again, position it directly onto the Steering Shaft while its bearing adapter accepts the installed pin to prevent side forces. Place the sensor directly on the Steering Shaft and within the bearing adapter until new sensors automatically center before removing the pin during final installation. Set the sensor at a 3.00 mm distance from the bearing adapter and then install the sensor connector followed by pin removal from the sensor. First install the sensor retainer onto the Steering Shaft before moving the shaft up to secure the bolt and nut to the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column connection point while using correct fasteners according to the application. Turn the upper intermediate shaft screw to a torque of 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Check wheel alignment in vehicles that adopt rear wheel steering technology.
