  • Q: How to replace the auxiliary A/C hose on 2003 Chevrolet Astro?
    A: The necessary tools for auxiliary compressor/condenser hose replacement include a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Start by taking away the air cleaner and recycling the refrigerant before you unfasten the grille plus the engine cover. Raising the vehicle allows you to disconnect the auxiliary evaporator line nut which is attached to the compressor hose assembly. Use a wrench to lower the vehicle and take off the compressor hose assembly bracket attaching hardware from the engine then remove the engine stud bracket nut from the hose clamp. First detach both compressor hose assembly bolt and sealing washers from the compressor unit. Remove the compressor hose assembly nut from the condenser and compressor hose assembly nut from the accumulator before pulling out the entire compressor hose assembly from the vehicle while using caps or plugging the open connections securely. Begin installation by removing caps or plugs from all connectors then attach the compressor hose assembly to the vehicle so that the compressor hose assembly nut can secure to the accumulator while torquing it to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). The compressor hose assembly nut receives installation on the condenser followed by tightening it to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). In the next step, fit seal washers to the compressor before bolting down the compressor hose assembly to the compressor with 34 n.m (25 lb ft) torque. Connect the hose clamp bracket nut through the engine stud and the compressor hose assembly bracket nut to the engine following torque specifications of 5 n.m (44 lb in). The vehicle needs to be raised once more so that you can fasten the auxiliary evaporator hose nut to the compressor hose assembly while tightening it to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Afterward you must lower the vehicle. Complete this task by following engine cover installation with grille positioning and evacuating/recharging the system using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) before fitting the air cleaner.
