• Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier?

  A: First, drive will increase the vehicle and support. Drain the engine oil, then remove the engine mount strut bracket, the lower AC compressor bolt, then loosen the upper AC compressor bolts. Next, remove the bolts on the oil pan and remove the oil pan. Make sure that the oil pan and the mounting surface on the lower crankcase are clean and void of oil and dirt. A 2 mm bead of RTV (GM P/N United States 12346286, GM P/N Canada 10953472) should be applied on the perimeter of the oil pan and around the opening of the oil suction port, while taking care not to over apply the RTV. Mount the oil pan and tighten the bolts of the oil pan to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Replace the AC compressor bolts and the engine mount strut bracket, then lower the vehicle and top off the engine oil to the correct level.
