2003 Chevrolet Cavalier Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: To replace Wheel Cylinder start by hoisting your vehicle then remove tire wheel brake assembly and Brake Drum. First clean wheel area surfaces and detach the Wheel Cylinder bleeder cap before removing the valve and disconnecting the brake fitting. Seal exposed brake pipe with a cap. First take off all Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts then use the Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover tool to open the brake shoes for Wheel Cylinder removal from Brake Backing Plate. You must use the Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) to move brake shoes apart and place the Wheel Cylinder on the Brake Backing Plate. Afterward, secure Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts at 16 nm (12 lb ft). Link the brake tube connector to the Wheel Cylinder end using proper hand torque. Secure the Wheel Cylinder bleeder valve at 8 nm (71 lb in) before fitting the Brake Drum and bleeding the hydraulic system. Attach the bleeder valve cap at the end. Complete the braking system by changing the drum pads and placing the wheel and tire set in position followed by lowering the vehicle.
