2003 Chevrolet Impala Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2003 Chevrolet Impala?
A: In order to replace the rear brake rotor, one should first raise and support the vehicle, followed by the removal of the tire and wheel assembly. However, use a c-clamp (not specified) to compress the piston into the brake caliper just enough to allow the caliper to slide away from the rotor, and remove c-clamp. Brake caliper should be backed up by heavy mechanic's wire or an equivalent as long as it is not disconnected from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still joined in order to prevent damage. Next, unbolt the caliper bracket without turning hydraulic brake flexible bolt, and then unbolt brake caliper and caliper mounting bracket as an assembly from suspension knuckle such that. There is only the presence of no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose. Align the position of the brake rotor with those of the wheel studs and detach the brake rotor. Prior to the installation of the new rotor, remove all rust and contaminants from the hub/axle flange and brake rotor mating faces using the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A) and the rotor resurfacing kit (J41013). Check the mating surfaces and ensure there are no foreign particles remaining and install the brake rotor to the hub/axle flange using the matchmark for orientation. In case the brake rotor was removed to repair the brake system, do an assembly lateral runout (LRO) measurement for the purpose of optimization of the system's performance. In case the lro is above specification, correct it as such. Lastly, mount the brake caliper and bracket assembly already under the suspension knuckle onto it, reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, put the vehicle down, and if necessary, also burnish the brake pads and rotors.
