2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the hazard warning switch on 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The first step to replace the Hazard Warning Switch requires you to apply the parking brake followed by using a small flat-bladed tool to gently remove the bezel from the Ignition Lock Cylinder. The transaxle shift control indicator needs positioning at 1 when dealing with vehicles with column shifts to achieve Steering Wheel access. Users of the impala should start by taking off the right and left access covers from the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block and monte carlo drivers can remove their left access cover. The steering column filler needs removal to access the instrument panel compartment door of the monte carlo. Open the i/p cluster trim plate screws before reaching from the left to remove the trim plate backward thereby gaining access to the Hazard Warning Switch. Detach the electrical connector from the switch then take it out from the i/p cluster trim plate. The new Hazard Warning Switch mounting location should go on top of the i/p cluster trim plate and the electrical connector needs to be installed. Push the trim plate inside the i/p trim pad until all locking retainers become fully secured then tighten the i/p cluster trim plate screws to 2 n.m (18 lb in). The left access cover installation directs towards the i/p fuse block of the monte carlo while impala owners should install both covers. The rest of this sequence requires installing the steering column filler followed by closing the i/p compartment door on the monte carlo then putting the Steering Wheel in its original position. You should position the transaxle shift control indicator to park if there is a column shift before attaching the bezel to the Ignition Lock Cylinder while releasing the parking brake.
