2003 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Mount the master cylinder flange in a bench vise and position it so the rear of the primary Piston is exposed for service work. Connect suitable horn-connection parts to the master cylinder ports that create flare mating with the required seal and let you fix hoses to the cylinder. Put transparent hoses on these fittings before bringing them into the master cylinder reservoir. Pour delco supreme 11 brake fluid gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the halfway point while completely submerging the hose tips. A smooth round tool helps depress and release the primary Piston to 25 mm for multiple presses while observing fluid outflow from the ports. The amount of force needed to push the primary Piston rises while its travel distance reduces when air is drained from the two pistons. Keep pushing the Piston until the fluid moves smoothly out from the open ports without trapped bubbles. Replace the transparent hoses into the reservoir while putting the master cylinder parts together and disconnect each port's fittings after securing the cylinder with a clean cloth. Remove the master cylinder from holding clamps at its final position.
