- Q: How to replace the front coil springs on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?A: To remove the front Coil Springs, first, lift and correctly support the vehicle. Remove tire and wheel assembly, being careful to adhere to the suspension spring removal precautions. Jack up the lower Control Arm and remove the ball stud nut. Employ the application of j 43631 Ball Joint remover (J 43631) to unscrew the lower Control Arm ball stud from the knuckle . Next, unscrew the stabilizer shaft nut and washer and bushing to disengage the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. As you lower the jack, pull out the coil spring. When you install the new coil spring , have the narrow diameter side in the upper spring seat , and the large diameter end linked to the low Control Arm. Lift up the lower Control Arm with a jack but do not tighten completely the stabilizer shaft link nuts and bolts until the weight of the vehicle is onto the wheels and tires. Reconnect the stabilizer shaft link with the lower Control Arm by putting in the stabilizer shaft nut, washer, and bushing. Mount the ball stud to the knuckle and fasten it with a new ball stud nut and tighten to 60 nm (43.5 ft. Lbs.). Replace the tire and wheel assembly and lower the vehicle and make sure that the stabilizer shaft is in the center from side-to-side while making sure that the stabilizer shaft links are in a neutral position. Lastly, lock the stabilizer shaft's link nut at 29 nm (21.0 ft. Lbs.).
