2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: You must begin by removing the Radiator and Drive Belt before starting crankshaft balancer repair activities while leaving just one bolt from the battery tray brace until the diagonal brace removal. Wedge the balancer bolt loosely then eliminate it before extracting the service slot plug to lower the vehicle. The crankshaft balancer removal requires tool j 41816-2 and tool j 41816-a together with extra caution towards the outer edge. Clean the crankshaft balancer after removing the puller along with j 41816-a from the system. To install the crankshaft balancer use gm p/n 12573950 for 2003 and first design 2004 models or gm p/n 12578073 for second design 2004 and later. Raise the vehicle then install the new shim. First secure the crankshaft balancer with en-48034 before removing it to add j 44226-1 that maintains the balancer position. The technician must clamp the Flywheel before inserting the balancer washer and bolt and tightens it to 150 nm (110 ft. Lbs.) then proceeds with an additional 180° using j 45059. Complete the torque converter holding tool removal then install the torque converter access plug to the Oil Pan before lowering the vehicle for Drive Belt and Radiator reinstall.
