2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The crankshaft balancer replacement requires starting with the removal of the battery tray brace bolt which links the radiator brace to the diagonal brace. After this step, proceed with removing the radiator intake baffle followed by the grill and diagonal brace. Then detach the radiator support diagonal brace together with hood latch support and cooling fan and shroud and Drive Belt from the system. The first step involves safely removing the balancer bolt followed by placing the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) at the end of the crankshaft while avoiding manipulation of the outer crankshaft balancer edge. The crankshaft balancer remover/holder (J 44226) enables removal of the balancer before taking out the j 44226 and j 41816-2. Clear and check the crankshaft balancer after removing its shim from the crankshaft snout. To install the crankshaft balancer first raise your vehicle and then eliminate the torque converter access plug which resides within the dry portion of the Oil Pan. Fasten the torque converter with the j 44226 kit holding tool during crankshaft balancer tightening. The procedure calls for applying a new gm p/n 12573950 crankshaft balancer shim to the crankshaft snout followed by using crankshaft front oil seal replacement (J 41478) to install and set the crankshaft balancer before taking out j 41478. You must hold the flywheel to install the balancer washer and bolt. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 150 nm (110 ft. Lbs.) followed by a torque angle measurement on the j 36660-a tool for an additional 180°. The procedure ends by first removing the torque converter holding tool followed by a torque converter access plug installation then vehicle lowering before Drive Belt and cooling fan assembly with shroud hood support and radiator braces and grill installation.
