2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Crankshaft Seal and replace the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Service work on the Crankshaft main bearing seal along with Crankshaft rear oil seal housing installation begins by removing transmission components followed by Flywheel bolts to separate the Flywheel. Use two bolts inserted into jackscrew holes to loosen the cover from the block after removing Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts. You must extract the Crankshaft before you remove the oil seal from its position at the Crankshaft snout. You need the rear seal installer (J 44227) to place the Crankshaft rear oil seal before discarding it. Place a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead of gm p/n 12378521 on the rear oil seal housing before inserting the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the block. Position the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing onto the alignment pins and Crankshaft before you fasten its housing bolts but keep the guide pins in place. After removing the guide pins install the remaining two housing bolts while tightening all bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After cleaning away any surplus material from the Oil Pan sealing region, secure the Flywheel into place while tightening all bolts in a specific sequence to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The torque angle meter (J 36660-A) should be used to apply another 50-degree torque to housing bolts before attaching the transmission.
