How to replace the positive battery cable on 2003 GMC Savana 2500?

The replacement process of the battery positive cable begins with moving aside the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank by discharging its retaining bolt. First disconnect the battery negative cable at the battery before proceeding to remove the positive cable. The positive lead of vehicles equipped with the 4.8l, 5.3l or 6.0l engine must be disconnected from the junction block. Raising the vehicle enables you to disconnect the positive Starter Solenoid lead before lowering it to disconnect the positive generator lead. Detach the cable while taking note of the retaining clip positions on the vehicle. The cable installation process starts by connecting the cable to the vehicle position while maintaining proper routes and inserting it correctly into retention clips. Secure the positive lead to the generator while tightening its generator output (BAT) nut to 18 n.m (13 lb ft). Once more raise the vehicle before tightening the positive lead at the Starter Solenoid to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The vehicle sitting at a lower position requires attachment of the positive lead to the junction block for 4.8l, 5.3l and 6.0l engine vehicles with junction block nut tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Smarten up the positive Battery Cable before bolting it to the battery posts while torquing them to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Tighten the negative cable afterward. Attach the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank together with the bolt while tightening it to 11 n.m (97 lb in).
