Positive Cable

Start the procedure of removing and installing new positive battery cables by properly supporting the raised vehicle. Disconnection of the auxiliary battery negative terminal should happen before unpocketing the positive cable cap. Proceed by removing the positive cable itself. Remove the auxiliary positive cable from the junction block followed by disconnecting its cable clip bolt at the frame to remove the auxiliary battery cable. Relocate the auxiliary battery cable first before you join and fasten with a torque of 17 N.m (13 lb ft) the positive battery cable. Installation begins with tightening the auxiliary positive cable to the junction block followed by closing the positive battery cable cap while adding the auxiliary battery negative cable before bringing down the vehicle.

The first step to disconnect the battery negative cable involves shutting down all lights and accessories and switching off the ignition. First remove the battery negative cable bolt to disconnect the negative Battery Cable from the battery and then remove the auxiliary negative Battery Cable bolt and cable from the auxiliary battery. Before installation you must clean all existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and Battery Cable end. Attach the auxiliary negative cable terminal bolt and cable to the battery then fasten it with 14 nm (123 lb in) torque. You should install both the auxiliary negative cable terminal bolt with cable to the auxiliary battery and torque them to 14 nm (123 lb in).

Connect the positive lead to the starter solenoid, tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

First, raise the vehicle.

Lower the vehicle.

Begin by installing the battery negative cable back into the vehicle and connecting the lead to the engine block.

Connect the positive lead to the generator, tightening the generator output (BAT) nut to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

Disconnect the battery positive cable from the junction block.

Attach the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt to the battery, ensuring the terminal bolt is tightened to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

Connect the battery negative cable to the auxiliary battery, tightening the bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft), and then connect the battery negative cable to the battery, tightening the bolt to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

Raise the vehicle again and install the positive lead to the starter solenoid, tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Connect the lead to the frame and ensure to follow the Fastener Notice.

Attach the cable lead to the inner fender panel, tightening the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Disconnect the battery negative cable lead from the inner fender panel.

Connect the battery positive cable to the battery and tighten to 14 Nm (123 lb in), then connect the battery negative cable.

The process of cleaning any corrosion and tightening the bolt to the same specifications.

Disconnect the positive lead to the starter solenoid.

For models with a 5.3L engine, disconnect the lead from the frame.

Afterward, snap the positive battery cable cap closed and reconnect the negative battery cable.

Next, disconnect the battery positive cable from the junction block and raise the vehicle.

Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery.

Install the cable to the vehicle, ensuring it is routed correctly and installed in the retainer clips.

Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.
