2003 GMC Savana 2500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a one-piece Drive Shaft on 2003 GMC Savana 2500?
A: Vehicle elevation enables reference marking all driveline elements including propeller shafts, drive axles, pinion flanges and output shafts regarding their position to the propeller shaft and axles which should align identically for reassembly. The rear axle pinion yoke or flange yoke bolts should be removed while avoiding ear pounding and any tools between the joints to prevent Universal Joint fractures. The operator should separate the propeller shaft by moving it ahead from the rear axle pinion yoke or yoke flange and afterward pulling it back from the transmission until the shaft fully exits the vehicle. Insert the transmission end of the Slip Yoke first while lining up reference marks before connecting the propeller shaft to its destination point consisting of pinion yoke or yoke flange. Reapply the reference marks during the installation process. Replace the discarded bolts of the yoke flange with fresh bolts before tightening the yoke retainer bolts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) along with yoke flange bolts tightened to 102 nm (75 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
