2004 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator on 2004 Buick Century?
A: Begin generator replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the Drive Belt from the generator then moving on to the next step. Before performing access to the coolant recovery reservoir you can remove the generator rear brace nut along with bolts 1, 2, 3 that secure the generator. Start by disconnecting the electrical connector then shedding the protective boot from the generator output bat terminal before you detach the positive battery lead using the generator output bat terminal nut. Secure the new generator against the engine's frame before attaching the positive battery lead. Fasten the generator output bat terminal nut until it achieves a torque value of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Install the protective boot on the generator output bat terminal before connecting the electrical connector. Begin attachment of generator bolts 2 and 3 without applying torque followed by generator pivot bolt installation without torque. Tighten all components using the following compulsory torque order: the mandatory torque sequence requires first tightening the generator pivot bolt to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) then moving to the generator bolt which requires the same 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque and concluding with the generator bolt receiving 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Screw the generator rear brace nut into position and apply 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque. Follow the sequence to reinstall the coolant recovery reservoir and Drive Belt then restore the negative Battery Cable connection.
