Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2004 Buick Rendezvous?
A: To remove the lower Intake Manifold, it is necessary to remove the upper intake, followed by the engine left and right side valve rocker arm covers. Unplug the wiring harness from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor after labeling each Fuel Injector wiring harness with masking tape mapping it to its cylinder number. Pull out the Fuel Injector, manifold air pressure (MAP), as well as ect wiring harness, and the fuel feed and return pipe from the Fuel Injector rail, together the retaining clip bolt and the clip. Use a socket to remove the bolts that attach the Fuel Injector rail to the cylinder head. Liquid fuel will spill out when you remove the Fuel Injector rail. This rail holds the injector and has the fuel injectors attached to it. Don not pull out the pipes or hoses from the Power Steering Pump, instead, pull the pump out from the front engine cover and move it to a different location. Remove the heater inlet pipe with heater hose, the inlet Radiator Hose and the Thermostat bypass hose from the lower Intake Manifold pipe. Take out the lower Intake Manifold bolts and the manifold, also loosen the valve rocker arms and push rods. Re-move the low Intake Manifold gaskets and seals, clean the gasket and seal surfaces on the cylinder heads and engine block. If you change the lower Intake Manifold, you will remove ect sensor and Thermostat. For installation, in cases of replacing the manifold, replace ect sensor and Thermostat with all gasket-mating surfaces being clean of oil and foreign material using gm p/n 12346139 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or equivalent. Put in the lower Intake Manifold gaskets, followed by the push rods, and tightened valve rocker arms. Add a small bead of rtv sealer gm p/n 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) to the edges of the Intake Manifold to temporarily block the joint corners and attach them using a bead of rtv sealer. Mount the lower Intake Manifold and apply sealer gm p/n12345382 (Canadian P/N10953489) to the lower Intake Manifold bolt threads. It is recommended to use new fasteners with a thread-locking patch for the best performance of the gaskets, or use a thread-locking chemical if reusing old fasteners. Prior to the center bolts according to the bolts diagonally, torque the center bolts all the way so as to ensure that they are properly sealable and then use crows foot type tool on bolts located at studio six and seven. Tigthen the lower Intake Manifold bolts 1, 2, 3, 4 to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) and then 13n (115 in lb.) for bolts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 25n (18 ft. L) for bolts 5, 6, 7, 8, in sequence. Reattach the Thermostat bypass hose, inlet Radiator Hose and heater inlet pipe, reinstall the Power Steering Pump, fuel injectors, rail, and reattach the fuel feed and return pipe and retaining clip and bolt with it tightened to 8 nm (71 inch lbs). Make sure the Fuel Injector wiring harness connectors are attached to the proper fuel injectors to prevent excessive exhaust emissions and lower engine performance, then you will feel free to install and connect the Fuel Injector, map, and ect wiring harness after connecting the wiring harness to the ect sensor. Lastly, replace the engine right and left-side valve rocker arm covers as well as the upper Intake Manifold.
