2004 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator fan on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The repair procedure for an electric cooling fan starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by upper Radiator support removal and draining the cooling system. The air deflector together with the Radiator oil cooler pipe retaining clip and bolt must be removed from the Fan Shroud. Place the j 37097-a (J 37097-A) when the vehicle is lowered. The upper Radiator oil cooler pipe must be separated from the Radiator before disconnecting its bolt which secures the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe to the Fan Shroud. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting plastic cap before you use the j 41623-b (J 41623-B) to disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the Radiator. Start by disconnecting wiring harness electrical connectors from the cooling fan motors and then taking off the clips that hold the harness to the Fan Shroud as well as unfastening retainers from the a/c discharge hose. Unscrew the two electrical cooling fan mounting bolts but avoid damaging the lower attachment areas of Radiator and fan assembly. The electric cooling fan assembly can be removed by holding it to the left then pulling upwards from right before repositioning towards right followed by a final upward pull to detach the unit. The cooling fan assembly must go behind the Radiator before moving it right and depressing the right side to match Fan Shroud feet with Radiator mounting tabs. Position the electric cooling fan mounting bolts in place before fastening them to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). The installation process begins with connecting the retainers to the a/c discharge hose followed by wiring harness electrical connector reattachment to the cooling fan motors and finally fastening the wiring harness retaining clips to the Fan Shroud. Place the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe inside the Radiator quick connect but maintain listening for the "click" sound before applying gentle force to confirm proper retention then apply the plastic cap to cover the joint. Attach and tighten the Fan Shroud bolt which retains the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe at 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). Secure the upper Radiator oil cooler pipe onto the Radiator by twisting it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Use the j 37097-a tool to rope the inlet Radiator Hose to the Radiator. The vehicle must be raised while you place the Radiator oil cooler pipe retaining clip to the Fan Shroud along with its bolt and ensure the bolt tightness reaches 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). After installing the air deflector you should lower the vehicle while installing the upper Radiator support then fill the cooling system before connecting the battery negative cable and checking the engine oil level.
