2004 Cadillac SRX Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2004 Cadillac SRX?
A: Start Brake Booster replacement by taking out the left insulator panel from the vehicle. Remove the vacuum Brake Booster push rod retaining clip first and then the Brake Booster Pushrod from brake pedal. Take out the cross vehicle brace as needed. Do not separate brake pipes from the master cylinder but take out the master cylinder from the booster to set it aside. You need to access the vacuum Brake Booster locking tab through the air inlet grille panel while leaving the surge tank inlet hose connected and keeping the coolant inside the system. Bolt the coolant surge tank out of its present position before reconnecting the surge tank inlet hose to avoid coolant spills. Connect the j 22805-b tool (J 22805-B) to the vacuum Brake Booster using its master cylinder mounting nuts to disconnect the valve. You can unlock the vacuum Brake Booster from its cowl location by pressing and holding the locking tab with a flat tool as you rotate the booster counterclockwise using a j 22805-b ratchet tool. Support the vacuum Brake Booster while disengaging it from the cowl mounting flange and push the foam filter to expose the retaining clip . Push up the longer leg of the retaining clip to take the Pushrod out from the vacuum Brake Booster. Keep the booster's inner components safe and replace it only if the locking flange has no damage. When reinstalling the old booster you must adjust the locking tab when needed. Place the vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod through its dust boot and connect the booster carefully to the Pushrod. Make sure to position the Pushrod the way that lets the long retainer clip leg enter the machined groove. To mount the booster into the cowl position it counterclockwise until the locking mechanism clicks into place and all flanges lock securely. Use a ratchet tool j 22805-b to turn the vacuum Brake Booster clockwise while securing it since flat-bladed tools can damage the system. Put back j 22805-b and connect vacuum hose and check valve properly. Set back the coolant surge tank, surge tank hose, air inlet panel, and master cylinder onto the vacuum Brake Booster. Reinstall the cross vehicle brace and attach the vacuum booster Pushrod to the brake pedal with its retaining clip when you need to perform this step. After finishing put back the left cover panel.
