2004 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2004 Cadillac SRX?
A: A review of brake master cylinder reservoir fluid must happen before replacing the rear brake caliper. The fluid removal process starts where the fluid level reaches the midpoint in between maximum-full and minimum allowable zones. First lift up the vehicle and support its position before removing the wheel along with the tire. Secure the large c-clamp around the brake caliper body until the caliper piston compresses sufficiently for the brake rotor clearance before removing the clamp. First disconnect the brake hose from the caliper using a bolt removal and throwing away the two copper brake hose gaskets while you seal the openings to avoid fluid escape and contamination. Insert a large c-clamp on the brake caliper body for compression until it can slide past the rotor diameter. You should then detach the caliper bracket by removing its pin bolts. Check if slide boots on the caliper show damage signs then perform a replacement when needed. Reattach the brake caliper to its bracket after cleaning all pin bolt threads and bracket holes while you apply gm threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canada P/N 10953488) onto every third portion of the lower caliper bracket bolt length. Once the threadlocker reaches proper cures you should apply high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to the caliper pin bolts before installing these bolts and tightening them to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). First uninstall the plug from caliper and hose and install new copper brake hose gaskets then use a 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque when attaching brake hose to the caliper. The hydraulic brake bleeding procedure starts with applying the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its total travel followed by gradual pedal release. Wait 15 seconds before you repeat the process until the Brake Pedal reaches a firm position to fully position the caliper pistons next to the pads. Performance of the tire and wheel assembly will finalize the process followed by a vehicle lower.
