Vehicle height adjustment allows access to the transfer case shield as well as the front propeller shaft for removal before replacing the front transfer case output shaft seal. The maintenance process starts with the removal of transfer case front output shaft dust seal and front output shaft seal. The front output shaft seal protector (J 44636-2) goes onto the transfer case front output shaft followed by installation of the front output shaft seal onto the protector. You should install the seal by utilizing the front output shaft seal installer (J 44636-1). After installation complete the process by removing both the installer and protector from the output shaft. The installation process ends with reinstallation of the front propeller shaft followed by checking the transfer case fluid level then reinstating the transfer case shield before lowering the vehicle.
