2004 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing belt on 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The replacement of timing belts starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable together with the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector and air intake tube from the Throttle Body and breather tube from the valve cover. The first steps require removal of the air filter housing bolts then the air filter housing followed by taking off the right front wheel and splash shield. The procedure commences by removing the accessory Drive Belt followed by removing the Crankshaft Pulley bolt and Crankshaft Pulley after which the upper and lower front Timing Belt covers need to be removed. The Power Steering Pump mounting bolts need removal when they exist. Put in the Crankshaft Pulley bolt while rotating the Crankshaft clockwise until its timing mark shows up with the notch at the bottom edge of the rear Timing Belt cover. The Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) should be used to rotate the coolant pump counterclockwise while releasing Timing Belt tension behind the Power Steering Pump. During installation users must position the Crankshaft gear timing mark at the notch of the rear Timing Belt cover having the exhaust camshaft gear dowel pin at 11 o'clock before setting up the camshaft gears timing marks for Timing Belt application. Use Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) to turn the coolant pump clockwise while observing when the adjust arm pointer of the Timing Belt automatic tensioner reaches the bracket notch before tightening the coolant pump retaining bolts. Turn the Crankshaft Pulley bolt clockwise by two full rotations before loosening the coolant pump retaining bolts. Then shift the coolant pump to reach the alignment between the adjust arm pointer and Timing Belt automatic tensioner bracket pointer and firmly tighten the bolts at 10 nm (89 lb in). Put the Crankshaft Pulley bolt aside while adding the upper and lower front Timing Belt covers and their bolts. Fasten both bolts at 10 nm (89 lb in). Follow the Crankshaft Pulley bolt installation with a torque wrench to achieve 95 nm (70 lb ft) before applying an additional 30 degrees torque and 15 degrees per the angle meter (J 45059) or angular torque gage (KM-470-B). The last step involves reinstallation of the accessory Drive Belt if equipped combined with the right front splash shield the right front wheel and air filter housing along with its bolts which need tightening to 8 nm (71 lb in) before reconnecting the air intake tube breather tube iat sensor connector and negative Battery Cable.
