2004 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rod bearing on 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: First remove the Cylinder Head with the air Intake Manifold and the Exhaust Manifold from it, the Oil Pan and the oil suction pipe bolts to remove the oil suction pipe and so on. Move the Piston to the bottom of stroke and mark the connecting rod cap for position, and remove the connecting rod cap bolts. Remove the connecting rod cap the lower connecting Rod Bearing then remove the upper Piston connecting Rod Bearing and ridge ream the cylinder wall. Carefully handle the Piston to prevent cuts from worn Piston rings, then discard the Piston and, with the help of a Piston Ring expander tool, expand and remove the Piston rings. Remove Piston pin from the Piston and connecting rod assembly and disassemble the Piston and the connecting rod using Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B). For installation, position the notch on the Piston and connecting rod, install the Piston pin guide, apply clean oil to the Piston pin, and install it into the Piston and connecting rod by means of the Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B). Choose new Piston rings, take the Piston Ring gap with a feeler gage, and file off unnecessary material. Test the Piston Ring side clearance and use various pistons rings if the fit is not to standards. Mount the Piston oil ring, expander, and the second oil ring followed by the second and top compression pistons using a Piston Ring expander without the need to tighten unnecessary expansion. Stagger the Piston oil rings, oil ring rail gaps, and compression ring with respect to the notch on the Piston. Lubricate the cylinder wall and Piston rings with clean engine oil, then install the Piston using a ring compressor and wood handle, with the lower connecting rod end without damaging the crankshaft journal. The connect rod cap and bearing should be installed and the cap bolts would tighten to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) simplicity of tightening the bolts using the angle meter (J 45059) to turn 30 degrees per bolt and one turn of 15 degrees per bolt. Lastly, fit the oil suction pipe together with the bolts, tightening them up to 10nm (89 inch lbs), then fit on the Oil Pan and the Cylinder Head and the intake and exhaust manifolds.
