2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Pressure Plate Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the pressure plate on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Service and repair of the Pressure Plate requires transmission removal first. You should turn the clutch cover bolts by one rotation each until spring pressure diminishes before removing both the clutch cover and the Clutch Disc. During installation position the heavy Flywheel assembly section which carries an x stamp mark toward the painted light side of the clutch cover. Support the clutch cover to the Flywheel assembly by using clutch alignment arbor (J 29074). The installation must begin with mounting the clutch cover to Flywheel bolts while respecting the specified sequence of tightening and torquing them up to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The clutch alignment arbor (J 29074) should be removed after tightening to allow application of gm p/n 12345777 or equivalent bearing lubricant before reinstallation of the transmission and hydraulic system bleeding operations before connecting the negative Battery Cable.
