2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Begin with vehicle hoisting and tire and wheel removal from the left side before starting intermediate Steering Shaft replacement. Drive the intermediate Steering Shaft seal out the way before taking off the lower pinch bolt from the steering gear. Repeat the intermediate Steering Shaft seal positioning procedure to reach the upper pinch bolt securing the Steering Column. Remove this bolt from the column. The new intermediate Steering Shaft together with its seal must be fitted into the vehicle after removing both components. Any damage to the Steering Column to cowl panel seal requires replacement to stop carbon monoxide from infiltrating the vehicle since it threatens human health. Tighten the upper pinch bolt on the Steering Column to 40 n.m (30 lb ft). Once again raise the vehicle to attach the lower pinch bolt to the steering gear while applying the same torque specification. Lift the vehicle once more to put the left wheel and tire in place.
