    Q:
How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Cavalier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting the intermediate Steering Shaft replacement requires vehicle hoisting followed by wheel and tire removal from the left side. Relocate the intermediate Steering Shaft seal until the pinch bolt at the steering gear's lower position becomes visible. Proceed to unscrew that bolt. Use the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to guide you back into position so you can remove the upper pinch bolt which is fixed to the Steering Column. The installation starts with removing the vehicle's intermediate Steering Shaft along with its associated intermediate Steering Shaft seal before moving to install new components. A damaged Steering Column to cowl panel seal requires replacement because failure to do so allows dangerous carbon monoxide to enter the vehicle. Fasten the upper pinch bolt onto the Steering Column then apply torque until it reaches 40 n.m (30 lb ft). After raising the vehicle use the torque wrench to tighten the lower pinch bolt on the steering gear to 40 n.m (30 lb ft). The remaining step includes installing the left tire and wheel before completing the vehicle's descent.
