How to replace the rear trunk latch on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?

Apply a grease pencil marker to show where the rear compartment lid latch should be placed. By taking out the lock cable assembly you gain access to the top of the lock release box where you can unclip the cable door to see the remote release cable. Start by pulling the remote release cable out from the lock release box when present and unscrewing all latch cable assembly bolts to take out the latch assembly. Line up the latch assembly marks and bolt it into place before tightening the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in). Attach the remote release cable to the lock release when you have it and fix the cable door at the top of the box. Mount the lock cable assembly last.
