How to replace the Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) on 4WD on 2004 Chevrolet Express 1500?

You must first lift and stabilize the vehicle then take off both tire and wheel to work on the Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) replacement on 4wd vehicles. Start by detaching the brake rotor of the 1500 model and continue by unmounting the wss cable from three locations including knuckle, upper Control Arm, and frame. Detach the wss electrical connector then take out the wss mounting bolt. Gently unmount the Wheel Speed Sensor from the hub/bearing setup for 2500/3500 models by avoiding any prying movements that could damage the sensor part. First plug the wss bore to shield the part from contaminants. Then prepare the wss installation surface on the hub by cleaning it with a brush before applying thin gm p/n 01051344 lubricant to the hub and sensor seals. Put the wss into the hub/bearing assembly with its base resting directly on the hub before adding the wss mounting bolt which you need to tighten to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Secure the wss cable mounting clips to the suspension parts and connect them to the mounting location on the frame. Install the abs sensor cable electrical connection, replace the brake rotor on 1500 models, put back the wheel and tire assembly. Last but not least do the abs diagnostic test without jl4's features.
