Raising and supporting the vehicle enables easy access to change the wss on 4 wheel drive vehicles. You need to detach the brake rotor from 1500 series. Unfasten the wss cable mounting clip from all attachment points and detach the electrical connector followed by unscrewing and removing the wss mounting bolt. Take out the wss in a straight line from its bore using your hands only instead of tools to keep the sensor body intact. To install put the wss bore plug over it until the installation starts. Prepare the wss mounting area on the hub by brushing away debris and apply a thin layer of wheel bearing lubricant gm p/n 01051344 to all surfaces. Place the wss properly into the hub/bearing assembly while maintaining flat contact with the hub surface before applying the wss mounting bolt and tightly tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Place the wss cable mounting brackets back onto the common part, upper Control Arm, and body connection point then join the wss electrical connector. Reinstall the brake rotor into its proper position as depicted in the 1500 series documentation. Reassemble the wheel and tire afterward you run the diagnostic system check for your vehicle.

After lifting the vehicle set it on supports you must remove the tire and wheel to access the Wheel Speed Sensor. Disconnect the brake rotor first then the Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) mounting bolt. Remove the sensor gently through the bore without tools to protect its body. To begin the job extract the Wheel Speed Sensor from the hub/bearing assembly and remove the wss cable mounting clips across both parts of the suspension. Separate the wss cable electrical connector. Fit the wss unit into the wheel bearing center space then bolt it down using the mounting bolt at 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Set the wss cable mounting clips back on the transmission knuckle and frame before connecting the electrical connector at the wss cable. Reinstall the brake rotor as well as the tire and wheel assembly and go back to the antilock brake system basic scan configuration.

Before you can replace the Wheel Speed Sensor on a 2wd vehicle you need to lift the vehicle and secure it followed by removing the tire and wheel. Work starts with removing the brake rotor in 1500 series vehicles then extracting wss cable retaining clips from three main components - knuckle, upper Control Arm and frame. Push the wss cable electrical connector off and take out the bolt that secures the wss. When replacing the Wheel Speed Sensor on 2500/3500 series hubs you should safely take out the sensor to avoid damaging the sensor body. To set up the wss bore avoid damage while installing the sensor o-ring and wheel bearing lubricant. Affix the wss flat into the hub/bearing assembly before installing the wss bolt and securing it to 18 nm torque settings. Reinstall the brake rotor 1500 model brakes by connecting the wss cable electrical connector to mounting clips and then attach the clips to knuckle, upper Control Arm, and frame installation position. Pack the wheel and tire back on after running the abs diagnostic without the jl4 function.

To repair the Wheel Speed Sensor on a vehicle with two-wheel drive you must first lift the vehicle and secure it afterward take off the tire then wheel and lastly the brake rotor. Unthread the wss mounting bolt and take out the sensor only by pushing it directly through the bore to stay away from harming the sensor shell. Separate the wss from its assembly and take off the wss mounting clips from the knuckle, upper Control Arm and frame attachment point to disconnect the wss electrical connector. Feed the wss into the hub/bearing assembly area and mount it with the bolt. Torque the bolt to 18 n.m (13 lb ft) as installation progress. Place the wss mounting clips back on the knuckle, upper Control Arm and frame while connecting the wss electrical cable to its end. Complete the installation by putting back the brake rotor and wheel assembly then execute the diagnostic system check - abs.

After stopping, check again for any illuminated indicators.

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle to ensure proper functionality.

Raise and support the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel.

Remove the leaf spring anchor plate.

Insert the WSS into the hub/bearing assembly, ensuring it is seated flat against the hub.

Reinstall the leaf spring anchor plate for the left rear sensor before lowering the vehicle.

Check if the ABS indicator or the traction assist indicator is illuminated.

Remove the WSS cable mounting clips from the knuckle, upper control arm, and frame attachment point.

First, raise the vehicle.

Insert the WSS into the hub/bearing assembly, ensuring to follow the fastener notice.

Perform a vehicle diagnostic system check.

Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 16 km/h (10 mph) for at least 5 seconds.

Install the WSS mounting bolt and tighten it to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

Detach the WSS cable mounting clips.

Clean the mounting surface on the hub with a wire brush and apply a thin layer of wheel bearing lubricant, GM P/N 01051344, to the hub surface and sensor O-ring.

Raise and support the vehicle, then remove the tire and wheel.

Select a smooth, dry, clean, and level road or large lot with minimal traffic and obstacles.

Disconnect the electrical connector, then remove the wheel speed sensor retaining bolt and take out the wheel speed sensor along with the spacer block.

Remove the brake rotor as shown on the 1500 Series.

Install the wheel speed sensor retaining bolt and tighten it to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).

Install the WSS into the hub/bearing assembly ensuring it is seated flat against the hub.

First, raise the vehicle.

Detach the WSS cable mounting clips from the knuckle, upper control arm, and frame attachment point, and disconnect the WSS cable electrical connector.

Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 16 km/h (10 mph) for a minimum of 5 seconds.
