How to replace the rear Trunk Lid Lift Support on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?

In order to replace the rear compartment lid strut, first open the rear compartment and support it. Raise the rear compartment strut retainer at the bottom and the top end using a small flat-bladed tool. Apply pressure only when one is in the final stage of removing or attaching the liftgate/hood assist rod to prevent any damage or bending. Remove one of the rear compartment strut from its position on the ball studs of the hinge and remove it from the vehicle. For installation, make sure the top and bottom of the new rear compartment strut are aligned with the ball studs on the hinge and insert it onto the upper ball stud, pushing it unto the entirety. Then, install the strut on the lower ball stud in the same way. Close the rear compartment, upper and lower strut retainers, remove the support.
