How to replace the Rear Crankshaft Seal on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 3500?

The j 41479 crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J 41479) serves as the tool required to replace crankshaft rear oil seals on 4.8l, 5.3l and 6.0l engines. Disassemble the engine Flywheel first along with the removal of the crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover. Verify removal of the Flywheel spacer when possible but refrain from oiling either the crankshaft surface or the inside diameter of the new oil seal because the original crankshaft rear oil seal must stay unused. A lubrication process using clean engine oil should be applied to both the new oil seal's outside diameter (OD) and the rear cover oil seal bore but should exclude contact with the crankshaft surface. After installing the j 41479 tapered cone and its bolts to the crankshaft rear position tighten them just enough but do not exceed the proper torque. Set the rear oil seal into position on the tapered cone before using force to drive it toward the rear cover bore. The j 41479 threaded rod must be threaded into the tapered cone until tool contact reaches the oil seal. At that point, position the oil seal precisely within the tool. Use the tool handle's clockwise rotation to seat the seal completely into the rear cover bore. After removing j 41479 you must replace the engine Flywheel.
