2004 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on 2004 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The process starts with taking out two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir by using a siphon. You should then support the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel assembly. After that, take out the 2 caliper pin bolts, being careful that the brake parts do not dangle from the flexible brake hoses and get damaged. Carefully take the caliper assembly off the caliper bracket and hang it with wire to stop the brake hose from being damaged. Then, take off the 2 brake pads (2, 3) from the caliper bracket, and afterwards remove the 2 Brake Pad retainers and the 2 Brake Pad insulators. Check the thickness of the brake pads to see that it is at least 7.5 mm (0.295 inch) for the pad and plate. In that case, you should put in new pads. Put the 2 Brake Pad insulators on the brake pads (3, 4) and make sure to put the 2 Brake Pad retainers in, placing the Brake Pad with the wear indicator toward the inside. Fit the brackets onto the caliper bracket and check the boots are pushed all the way into the grooves. After that, connect the caliper to the caliper bracket and fasten it with the 2 caliper pin bolts until they are tightened to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). After reassembling the tire and wheel, reduce the vehicle, then fill the master cylinder reservoir. Power on the engine and push the brake pedal several times to move the caliper piston in, then burnish the pads.
