2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The first step to replace the Shift Cable includes positioning the vehicle in park mode followed by vehicle elevation. Nicely dismantle the end of the Shift Cable by extracting it from the transmission range selector lever ball stud then detach the retaining component from the Shift Cable. Detach the Shift Cable from its bracket and pull it out from the panel retainer positioned on the floor; 4wd vehicles need cable release from Transfer Case retainers too. Lower the vehicle after passing the cable grommet through the floor panel. Finish the task by taking out the console. Start by discarding the driver-side front mat and carpet and then proceed with taking the floor control ball stud end of the Shift Cable off and the Shift Cable off the floor shift control assembly. You should first remove the tape and grommet on the Shift Cable from the floor panel before proceeding to extract the Shift Cable from the automated vehicle. The installation requires a floor panel cable descent with grommet attachment before joining the Shift Cable to the floor shift control assembly while connecting the end of the Shift Cable to the floor control ball stud. Reposition the front driver side mat first then the carpet before you put back the console. Install the cable into the floor panel retainer while 4wd drivers must attach the cable to the Transfer Case retainers. Collapse the bracket onto the Shift Cable for attachment while fitting the retainer onto the cable. After connecting the end of the cable to the ball stud of the transmission range selector lever adjust the Shift Cable while keeping the vehicle lowered before testing its proper operation.
