Shift Control Cable

The vehicle needs to be placed in park position with wheels in the air before starting the replacement of Shift Cable. Take off the retainer from the Shift Cable and then remove the end of the cable which connects to the transmission range selector lever ball stud. First detach the Shift Cable's bracket connection or separate it from the floor panel retainer and remove it from 4wd vehicle Transfer Case retainers as well. Drive the floor panel grommet upwards and then drop the vehicle to the ground. The next step requires you to uninstall the console and both the driver's side front mat and carpeting. Remove the Shift Cable from the floor control ball stud and take off the end of the cable before removing the assembly from the floor shift control. First remove the tape along with the grommet from the Shift Cable at the floor panel followed by removing the Shift Cable from the vehicle. Installation requires pushing down the cable through the floor panel before inserting the grommet while connecting Shift Cable to the floor shift control assembly and the floor control ball stud. Reinstall the driver's side front mat along with the carpet followed by reinstallation of the console. The vehicle should be elevated once more so technicians can mount the cable either to floor panel retainers or Transfer Case retainers for 4wd models. Accommodate the Shift Cable into the bracket while you install the retainer over the Shift Cable for fitting. Finish the Shift Cable connection by attaching it to the transmission range selector lever ball stud followed by adjusting the cable then inspecting vehicle operations after lowering the vehicle down.

Stand by the park position first to start the replacement of Shift Cable then raise the vehicle. Start by disconnecting the transmission range selector lever ball stud from the upper end of the Shift Cable followed by removing its retainer. Start by detaching the Shift Cable from its bracket before taking out the entire cable from the floor panel retainer. After pushing the cable grommet through the floor panel you should lower the vehicle. Begin by disassembling the console while detaching the end of the Shift Cable from the floor control ball stud before disconnection of the Shift Cable from the floor shift control assembly. Start by disconnecting the floor panel tape along with cable grommet before removing the Shift Cable completely from the vehicle. To install the component you must guide the cable into the floor panel space and after that attach the grommet. A fixture connects the Shift Cable to the floor shift control assembly while the end of the cable reaches the floor control ball stud. The console installation begins after elevating the vehicle for refitting of the cable to the floor panel retainer. The Shift Cable installation requires attachment to the bracket while the retainer secures around the Shift Cable. After securing the lever ball stud of the transmission range selector with the cable end you should begin adjusting the Shift Cable followed by vehicle lowering to check proper operation.

The procedure of replacing the Shift Cable requires starting with the vehicle in park position followed by vehicle lift and removal of the end of the Shift Cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud. Reach inside the transmission to uninstall the Shift Cable end from its ball stud position on the lever. Then detach the retaining clamp. Begin replacement of the Shift Cable by first removing cable attachments from the bracket then unfastening it from the floor panel retainer although 4wd vehicles also require cable removal from Transfer Case retainers. The cable grommet needs pushing through the floor panel while lowering the vehicle. Begin by taking out the console together with the driver's side front mat as well as carpet. The installation requires removal of the Shift Cable end that comes out of the floor control ball stud followed by removal of the Shift Cable from the floor shift control assembly. Before working on the Shift Cable you must take away the grommet and tape from the floor panel. The installation process requires cable descent through the floor panel before mounting the grommet and connecting the Shift Cable to both the floor shift control assembly and floor control ball stud. Reinstall the driver side front mat followed by the carpet before you return the console to its position. You should next mount the vehicle before installing the cable into the box retainers which exist within the floor panel structure or the Transfer Case system for four-wheel-drives. Use the Shift Cable to bracket the attachment then secure the retainer onto the attached cable. The end of the Shift Cable should be connected to the transmission range selector lever ball stud while adjusting the cable and performing a vehicle check for correct operation.

The first step to replace the Shift Cable is to position the vehicle in park followed by suitable support of the car to prevent pulling on the cable boot end. Use a flat bladed tool to disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission shift lever ball stud by leveraging between the Shift Cable end and shift lever. To detach the cable you must first take out its retainer then extend the locking tabs so they free it at the bracket point. Lower the vehicle as you push the cable grommet through the floor panel. The driver's side carpet requires lifting upward to view the Shift Cable while accessing it through the left hinge pillar trim panel. Circumvent the Shift Cable retainer at the lower dash panel while using a flat-bladed tool to remove the Shift Cable from the transmission shift lever ball stud. The retainer should be removed from the cable before pushing the locking tabs into the steering column bracket and extracting the cable from the vehicle. Push the Shift Cable down through the floor panel then seat the cable grommet before directing the cable through dash mat and attaching the retainer to the lower dash panel. Secure the cable installation at the steering column bracket through retainer attachment. Put the cable end onto the shift lever ball stud and afterward reset the driver's side carpet. Check under the accelerator pedal for any type of binding then put back the left hinge pillar trim panel. After installment of the Shift Cable to its bracket it should be fastened with a retainer. During the installation of a new cable replace the primary lockout pin with a new one before you adjust the Shift Cable then complete by lowering the vehicle.

Push the cable down through the floor panel and install the grommet.

Raise the vehicle again and connect the cable to the retainer on the floor panel.

Remove the end of the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud, followed by the retainer from the range selector cable.

Push the cable down through the floor panel and install the grommet, then attach the range selector cable to the floor shift control assembly and the end of the range selector cable to the floor control ball stud.

Remove the end of the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud, then take off the retainer from the range selector cable.

Detach the end of the range selector cable from the floor control ball stud and remove the range selector cable from the floor shift control assembly.

Remove the end of the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud and the retainer from the cable.

Remove the console and the driver's side front mat and carpet.
