2008 GMC Envoy Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the shift cable on 2008 GMC Envoy?
A: A vehicle should be placed in park position before starting the Shift Cable replacement process. Also raise the vehicle. Start by detaching the Shift Cable end from its position at the transmission range selector lever ball stud along with the removal of the retainer from the cable assembly. The replacement procedure begins by unfastening the cable from its bracket and from the retainer on the floor panel while 4wd vehicles require the removal of retainers on the Transfer Case as well. The cable grommet should pass through the floor panel and then the vehicle should lower to its original position. After that step remove the console while also taking out carpet and front mat from the driver's side. Unfasten the Shift Cable from the ball stud on the floor control then extract the cable from the floor shift control assembly. Unfasten the tape along with the grommet on the Shift Cable from the floor panel before removing the Shift Cable from your vehicle. The cable installation requires researchers to pass it down through the panel and mount the grommet. Attach the Shift Cable to the floor shift control assembly before joining its end to the floor control ball stud. Reinstall the driver's side front mat first before adding the carpet and then installing the console. For installation raise the car again to install the cable into either floor panel retainers or into 4wd Transfer Case retainers. Mount the Shift Cable to the bracket as well as the retainers to the cable. End with attaching the end of the Shift Cable to the transmission range selector lever ball stud. Then adjust the Shift Cable before lowering the vehicle to check proper vehicle function.
