  A: Begin replacing the Shift Cable by placing the vehicle in park position followed by raising it up. The end of the Shift Cable requires removal from the ball stud of the transmission range selector lever and the retainer must also be taken off from the Shift Cable. Separate the Shift Cable from the bracket before removing it from both the floor panel retainer and the Transfer Case retainers when dealing with 4wd vehicles. Pass the cable grommet through the floor panel opening and allow the vehicle to descend. Remove initially the console together with the driver's side front mat and carpet. The end section of the Shift Cable should be taken off from the floor control ball stud before the Shift Cable can be extracted from the floor shift control assembly.
