2004 GMC Savana 1500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2004 GMC Savana 1500?
A: Begin the Radiator replacement process by collecting all required tools that should include hose clamp pliers (J38185). The first step involves taking out the air cleaner assembly with the coolant recovery reservoir. The hose clamp pliers (J38185) are necessary for unclipping the clamp at the Radiator inlet before separating the Radiator inlet hose. The hose clamp pliers (J38185) will remove the outlet heater hose clamp at the Radiator before unlatching the outlet heater hose. The automatic transmission cooler lines together with the engine oil cooler lines need to be detached next. Begin by unscrewing all fan shroud bolts from the top of the Radiator support and from the fan shroud sides before removing the Radiator assembly along with its insulators (1, 3). Check the Radiator and its insulators as well as clamps and hoses while performing an inspection for replacement of any needed components. The first step for installation is to position the Radiator insulators (1, 3) before installing the Radiator itself. Fasten fan shroud bolts to the Radiator support top before tightening them up to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) and proceeding to install fan shroud bolts on either side that also require a torque of 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). Reinstall the engine oil cooler lines together with the automatic transmission oil cooler lines before you attach the Radiator inlet hose to its location. Through the use of hose clamp pliers (J38185) install hose clamp on the Radiator inlet housing afterward reattach outlet heater hose and outlet heater hose clamp (J39529). To complete the repair the technician should replace the air cleaner assembly followed by inspections of automatic transmission fluid levels and engine oil levels.
