2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Hose with RPO Code HP2 on 2004 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Initial steps for evaporator tube replacement according to rpo code hp2 include retrieving the refrigerant from the a/c system at the start. The halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) should be used to examine fitting leaks on completed components. Start by untightening the evaporator tube nut on the evaporator then extract both the tube nut and the evaporator tube. Remove the rear evaporator tube from the vehicle by untightening the fitting nut on both ends. The next step requires removing the air cleaner assembly followed by pulling the push pin from the right side radiator air baffle together with the bolts from the starter/generator control module (SGCM) coolant pump before repositioning the sgcm coolant pump. Disconnect the vehicle from right park/turn signal lamp and grille elements. After this remove both the evaporator tube nut from the condenser and the evaporator tube and then extract the front evaporator tube from the vehicle. The sealing washers should be discarded then all exposed connections must be capped. The first step of installation involves installing the front evaporator tube onto the vehicle while also opening all connections. Begin by positioning the evaporator tube on top of the condenser then apply new sealing washers before attaching the evaporator tube nut to the condenser assembly that should reach 16 n.m (12 lb ft) torque. Position the sgcm coolant pump to the radiator core support while installing its bolts and tightening them to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Next put the push pin as well as the air cleaner assembly into place on the right side radiator air baffle and then insert the rear evaporator tube into the vehicle. Tighten the evaporator tube fitting nut to 9 n.m (80 lb in) and connect it to the evaporator tube fitting. Then install the evaporator tube to the evaporator with an evaporator tube nut that you should tighten to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Complete the system by evacuating the air conditioning system then recharge it.
