To extract the valve lifters and guide you should use valve lifter remover (J 3049-A) but only if you need to remove stuck lifters because of gum or varnish deposits. Once you remove valve lifters from their guide you should arrange or tag their components for accurate reinstallation. The valve lifters need examination after cleaning while you should lubricate both valve lifters and their bores in the engine block with fresh engine oil. Screw the valve lifters into the lifter guides until their flat tops match the flat surfaces in the guide bore while completely pushing the lifters inside. Attach valve lifters and their guide towards the engine block while bolting down the guide with 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The final step includes installing the Cylinder Head along with its gasket.
