2005 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the engine flywheel on 2005 Buick Century?
A: The repair and servicing process of the engine Flywheel starts with automatic transaxle removal. Secure the Flywheel using the Flywheel holder (J 37096) while holding the crankshaft from rotation and start loosening the six Flywheel bolts. Hold the Flywheel to remove the last bolt which should stay at the top of the crankshaft rotation position while the other five bolts remain in place. Proceed with removing the engine Flywheel retainer along with its attached Flywheel then clean all bolt holes and threads. Reposition the Flywheel together with the retainer by using the Flywheel holder (J 37096). The installation process requires correct fasteners to be placed in the appropriate locations because replacement fasteners should precisely match specified part numbers. Do not apply paints or lubricants along with corrosion inhibitors to fasteners because they modify torque strength and clamping force output. The engine Flywheel bolts require tightening to 71 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). Use a dial indicator to check the runout of three points on the engine block through the attaching bosses; if the Flywheel cannot achieve proper correction, install a new engine Flywheel. Finally, reinstall the automatic transaxle.
