- Q: What Tools Are Required for Replacing the Outer CV Joint and Seal on 2005 Buick Park Avenue?A: The wheel drive shaft outer joint and seal replacement needs these specific tools: j 35910 drive axle seal clamp pliers and j 41048 drive axle swage ring clamp and j 8059 snap ring pliers. You need three specific tools to perform this maintenance: j 35910 drive axle seal clamp pliers j 41048 drive axle swage ring clamp and j 8059 snap ring pliers. Start by cutting the large seal retaining clamp from the CV Joint with a side cutter until you can throw it away then move onto cutting the small seal retaining clamp from the halfshaft bar. Move the CV Joint outer race together with the outboard seal safely along the bar using this approach. Use j 8059 alongside the CV Joint inner race face to spread the ring's retaining ears before the bar extracts the CV Joint assembly. Tap the CV Joint cage of the bar with a hammer and brass drift to free the chrome alloy balls as you gently remove the bar's seal. Use cleaning solvent to properly clean each piece including the CV Joint cage and balls and the inner and outer race assemblies before drying every component free of remaining old grease and contaminants. Slip the new swage ring over the small end of the joint seal before placing it onto the halfshaft bar. Use j 41048 positioned in a vise to position the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly where its seal neck top rests on bottom die. Start by hand-tightening all bolts on j 41048 until snug then switch the order of bolt tightening by alternating 180 degrees before bottoming the assembly. Lubricate the ball grooves of both inner and outer races using kit grease before inserting an aligned inner race into the cage. People should slide the chrome balls onto the halfshaft bar before packing the CV Joint with grease and pushing the CV Joint until the retaining ring seats. First, properly shape the outboard seal and slide the large diameter over the CV Joint outer race before using j 35910, a breaker bar, and a torque wrench to crimp the seal retaining clamp at 176 nm (130 ft. Lbs.). Use the torque wrench to extend the clamp ear gap dimension until obtaining 2.60 mm (0.102 inch).
