Position the centerpunch to indent the bottom of the tube 10 mm (0.4 inch) down. Position the shock absorber horizontally within the vise while the shock absorber rod exists in its maximum position. Drill the hole at the centerpunch location using a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit which serves to evacuate gas or gas/oil mixture through the opening as shop towels trap the oil. Using the centerpunch create another indentation in the tube's middle. Drill the second 5 mm (3/16 inch) hole in this marked area while stopping the escaping oil with shop towels. Place the shock absorber rod in a drain pan while holding it horizontally with both holes pointing downward and insert and remove the rod through the tube to remove all oil.
