2005 Buick Rendezvous Power Steering Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Power Steering Reservoir (LY7) on 2005 Buick Rendezvous?
A: Start the replacement process of remote Power Steering Reservoir (LY7) through fluid siphoning from the container. Begin by lifting and securely holding the vehicle and moving forward to remove both the right front tire as well as wheel. First lower the vehicle then take out the inner fender liner to reach the front frame bolts before enabling a floor jack to rest on the frame. Before proceeding attach the floor jack to the frame and powertrain while you remove all bolts along the right side of the frame-to-body connection. The floor jack should move both the powertrain and right side frame down to let the back of the reservoir become accessible. To begin remove the ecm wire harness from its clip on the reservoir before separating the power steering pressure pipe/hose from both the Power Steering Reservoir bracket and mounting stud bolt. Better hose accessibility requires a reservoir turn before disconnecting the inlet hose of the power steering pump and the return hose while finally removing the reservoir and bracket from the vehicle. Close the Power Steering Reservoir and its hoses to stop contamination before you remove the ecm retaining clip together with the Power Steering Reservoir bracket from the reservoir. The first step for installation should start by attaching the Power Steering Reservoir bracket onto the reservoir while installing the ecm retaining clip. Reconnect the Power Steering Reservoir after you uncap it and its attached hoses and reinstall the Power Steering Reservoir bracket to the vehicle. Afterward attach the Power Steering Reservoir return hose followed by the power steering pump inlet hose to the reservoir with proper placement. From the rear install the Power Steering Reservoir mounting stud bolt then torque it to 25 nm (19 ft. Lbs.). Safely secure the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the reservoir bracket followed by connecting the ecm wire harness to its clip on the reservoir. Raise the right frame and powertrain with the jack while you install both right rear body bolts to 240 nm (177 ft. Lbs.) and right front bolts to 155 nm (114 ft. Lbs.). To finish the procedure raise the vehicle once more after removing the floor jack and install the inner fender and the front wheel followed by lowering the vehicle. The last step involves filling the Power Steering Reservoir with fluid followed by screwing power steering bleeding then conducting an inspection for leaks.
