2005 Buick Terraza Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit on 2005 Buick Terraza?
A: To replace the brake pipe, next to the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit (J 45405), ensure to adhere to safety measures in terms of brake fluid irritants and the use of double-walled steel brake pipes to avoid system failure. First, inspect the part of the brake pipe that is to be replaced and release it from the retainers. If section is needed then choose a proper location where it is not close to bends or mounting points and measure the length of the pipe to be substituted, adding 6.35 (0.250 inch) when the O.D of the pipe is 4.76mm (3/16 inch), with both ends flared. It is important to note that in case the grinder is not available, the brake pipe should be cut with the pipe cutter which comes in a J45405. It is, however necessary that the cutting of the brake pipe is done in a square manner. Choose the right-sized brake-pipe and tube nuts, strip the nylon coating from the ends that are to be flared with the coating stripping-tool in the J 45405, and chamfer the pipe ends using a de-burring tool which can be found in the kit. Insert the tube nuts, clean the brake pipe and the J 45405 free of contaminants, and get ready to flare the pipe by loosening the screw at the tie then inserting the two die halves. Insert the prepared end of the pipe into the die cage, clamp it into position, and flare by the means of the forming mandrel. After flaring, check the shape and diameter of the flare; in case of necessity, remember to bend the new pipe using a suitable brake pipe bending tool. Mount the pipe to the vehicle with the corresponding unions, then lock it into the retainers, bleed the hydraulic brake system and finally inspect for leaks beginning the engine and apply the brakes with help.
