How to replace the rear Trunk Lid Lift Support on a Coupe or Sedan on 2005 Cadillac CTS?

You must position and support the rear compartment lid before working on the strut replacement for a coupe or sedan. Push on the liftgate/hood assist rod at both its tips as you replace it to keep the rod straight. A small flat blade tool can separate the clips that hold the upper and lower rear compartment assist rod studs. Take out the rear compartment assist rod from its position in the car. Put the rear compartment lid assist rod into the upper and lower ball studs in this order. Secure the rear compartment assist rod clips properly before placing the compartment back into position.
